Holo & layer lift repair

Lift happens when the layers of a card begin to separate — most often the holofoil layer on vintage Pokémon cards, or a corner where the front paper layer has started to peel from the core. Left alone, lift spreads: every shuffle, sleeve insertion, or humidity swing works the separation further along the card.

Our lift repair re-seats the separated layer and stabilizes the edge so the separation doesn't continue. On holo cards this is delicate work — the foil layer is unforgiving — which is why every card is assessed individually before we commit to an approach.

What lift repair involves

  • Magnified assessment of how far the separation extends and whether the foil layer is distorted
  • A free written estimate with an honest read on the achievable result
  • Careful re-seating and stabilization of the lifted layer
  • Before, during, and after photos of the full repair

What to expect

Early-stage lift — a corner or a short run along one edge — usually re-seats cleanly and becomes very hard to detect. Advanced separation where the foil layer has wrinkled or distorted can be stabilized and visually improved, but distortion in the foil itself is often permanent. We'll tell you which situation your card is in before you decide.

Pricing

Lift repair starts at $50 for the first area of separation, with each additional at $10. Vintage holos with high market value carry a small liability surcharge that covers full insurance while the card is with us.

Common questions

What is holo lift on a Pokémon card?

Holo lift is the separation of the holofoil layer from the card's paper core, usually starting at an edge or corner. It's common on vintage holos and spreads if left untreated.

Can holo lift be repaired?

Early-stage lift usually re-seats cleanly and becomes very hard to detect. Advanced lift where the foil has wrinkled can be stabilized and improved, but foil distortion itself is often permanent. We assess each card before quoting.

How much does lift repair cost?

Lift repair starts at $50 for the first area of separation and $10 for each additional. The written estimate is free.

Every job starts with a free written estimate — photos in, honest assessment out, no obligation.
