Trading card crease repair
A crease is the hardest defect on a trading card to treat — and the one that hurts a card's eye appeal and value the most. It's a physical break in the card stock's fibers, which is why a crease can't simply be wiped away or pressed out at home without risking more damage.
Our crease repair process uses controlled humidity, pressure, and time to relax the card stock and reduce the crease as far as the fibers allow. Every card is assessed under magnification first, and we tell you up front what degree of improvement is realistic for your specific card before any work begins.
What crease repair involves
- Magnified assessment of the crease depth, direction, and any surface breaks
- A written estimate with honest expectations — some creases reduce dramatically, some only soften
- Controlled flattening using humidity and pressure treatment, never heat-pressing that damages gloss
- Full photographic documentation before, during, and after the work
What to expect
No service can make a deep crease vanish completely — anyone who promises that is overpromising. What we can usually do is significantly reduce how visible a crease is, restore the card's flatness, and dramatically improve its display presentation. Light surface creases respond best; heavy folds that broke the ink layer will improve but remain detectable up close.
Crease repair and grading
PSA, BGS, and SGC classify structural repair as alteration, so crease-repaired cards are best suited for personal collections and display rather than grading submission. If your goal is a grade, ask us about cleaning and grade prep instead — we'll tell you honestly which path makes sense for your card.
Pricing
Crease repair starts at $75 for the first crease, with each additional crease at $25. High-value cards carry a small liability surcharge that covers full insurance while your card is in our care. Use the pricing calculator for an instant estimate — the written quote is always free.
Common questions
Can a crease be completely removed from a card?
Rarely. A crease is broken card-stock fiber, so full removal isn't realistic for most cards. We can usually reduce a crease significantly and restore flatness, and we'll tell you before starting how much improvement to expect for your specific card.
How much does card crease repair cost?
Crease repair starts at $75 for the first crease and $25 for each additional crease on the same card. Cards valued over $1,000 carry a small liability surcharge that covers insurance. Estimates are always free.
Will a repaired crease affect PSA grading?
PSA, BGS, and SGC treat structural repair as alteration, so crease-repaired cards aren't intended for grading submission. They're best for personal collections and display.
